The
Beaufort County Arts Council was founded in 1972 to support, initiate
and present artistic programs throughout the county. The diverse
offering of cultural programs includes an annual juried art show and
crafts show, year-round exhibitions in the adjacent Washington Civic
Center gallery, a series of free public concerts for all ages, an annual
art camp for young people, workshops, lectures, and organized trips to attend outstanding cultural events. |

The
Beaufort County Arts Council is committed to enhancing the educational
opportunities for Beaufort County school children by presenting programs
highlighting the performing, literary and visual arts. Concerts, workshops, and grant support of numerous projects link the Arts Council to thousands of young people each year. |

The
Arts Council supports the Washington Community Theatre, Beaufort
County Choral Society, Washington Area Historic Foundation, Pamlico
Writers' Group, Pamlico River Quilters' Guild and many area
festivals also receive financial and administrative support. |

The
renovated Atlantic Coastline Railroad Station houses the Arts Council
Offices, meeting room and Lane Gift Shop where hand-crafted artwork by
area artists and craftspeople is available. The Washington Civic Center, located in the warehouse section of the station complex, is the perfect setting for art shows, concerts, theatrical presentations, meetings and receptions. |
