"AGHHH!!!!! ZAC DON'T YOU COME NEAR ME!" A female voice shrieked out from next door. Then came the splash and another shriek. It was a week after my family and I had moved in and our house was starting to look like a home. The rooms wer unpacked but there were still boxes around that had to be taken to the rubish dump. I was swiming in my own pool when I heard the girl scream out. I asumed this was the girl that was my age who Dad had told me about. "I'M GOING TO KILL YOU!" The girl yelled out. I heard the sound of laughter.
"Aww, lighten up Kim. You were gonna get wet anyway"
"Yeah but not by you pushing me in I wasn't! You are such a jerk sometimes!"
"Ike, can you tell your girlfriend to grow up?"
"Kim, ya gotta grow up"
"Shut up Isaac! You could have stopped him ya know"
"Hey, what can I say, I thought the situation was funny"
"You would" The girl said sourly. I could clearly hear that she was outnumbered. I had to smile. They sounded like me and my old friends. Suddenly a pool toy came flying over the fence and landed on the lawn a few meters away from the pool. "Zac!" The girl yelled out again. I got out of the pool and had wrapped my towel around me just as the gate in the fence eased open and the girl stuck her brown haired head through. She saw me and looked surprised for a moment. She recovered and then stepped into my yard.
"Oh hey! I didn't think anyone would be out here. You're the girl Ike told me about. Jaida right?" She asked. I nodded.
"Yeah... that's me. And you are..."
"I'm Kimberly... but my friends call me Kim. Hey, are you alone out here?" Kimberly asked me.
"Uh-huh... my parents are out, looking around town and stuff.. I didn't want to go. So I stayed here"
"You wanna join us? It's just me and some friends from down the street.. hey, you've met two of 'em. Taylor and Isaac. The one I've been yelling at is their younger brother, Zachary-"
"IT'S ZAC!" A boy yelled out from beyond the fence.
"WHATEVER!" Kimberly yelled back. She turned back to me. "So, do you wanna? At least you wont be alone and I'll have another female companion to complain with" Kimberly said, a grin on her face. Even though I had only known her for two minutes at the most, I liked Kimberly. She seemed out going and friendly and someone you could keep up a conversation with. So I nodded and gathered up my things.
"Sure... thanks... I've been meaning to come over and introduce myself... but I've been busy with unpacking and stuff" I lied. Kimberly smiled at me and then walked ahead of me into her yard.
"Guy's! This is Jaida... Ike, you remember meeting her don't you? Where's Tay? Zac, this is Jaida" she said as I walked into Kimberly's yard. Isaac was lounging in a banana lounge and Zac was splashing around in the pool.
"Hi Jaida! Don't listen to anything she say's about me. I am totaly normal!" Zac said before diving under the water.
"THE BOY LIES!" Kimberly shrieked. I laughed, wondering what I had gotten myself into. Suddenly the back door opened and out stepped, Taylor. The sight of him made my heart jump up into my throat. Just like it had with...
"Hey there, Jaida if I remember correctly." He said, a small grin on his lips.
"Ahh, yep... that's me.." Jaida! what are you saying? get a grip girl! I scolded myself. Kimberly was standing with her back to Isaac when he silently got up off of the lounge and crept up behind her. With a sudden movement, he grabbed her around the waist and picked her up.
"IKE! .. NO!! DON'T YOU DARE!" She screamed as Isaac lifted her high above the pool. But insted of throwing her in, he brought her down so she was cradled in his arms and kissed her. I looked away, right into Taylor's eyes. He was staring right back at me. I blushed and looked away.
"Guy's... please... do we really have to witness this sickening display of affection?" Zac groaned. The couple broke apart and Kimberly grined at me.
"Hey Jaida... come with me!" She suddenly exclaimed, grabbing my hand, she dragged me inside. She lead me though her house to her room. It was quite large, with a double bed and built in robe. She also had a dresser, which was cluttered with hair accessories, jewelry and make-up. On the mirror there were numerous pictures of her and Isaac and who I guessed were her friends.
"So Isaac's your boyfriend?" I asked.
"Sure is... he's great" Kimberly smiled at me.
"How long have you been together?"
"Nearly five months.... this comming Friday is our anniversary. But we can't go out anywhere 'cause Mom and Dad are having a barbque and I've got a whole heap of friends comming over. So we're gonna go out on Saturday night. Hey! you wanna come on Friday? You can bring your parents to!" Kimberly said, suddenly getting excited.
"Yeah.. sounds great... I'm sure Mom and Dad will be greatful to meet some other adults." I said.
"Do you have a boyfriend?" Kimberly asked me.
"No,... no I don't.... why? know anyone who might be interested?" I asked, laughing.
"Uh-huh... Taylor... he likes you. He hasn't stopped talking about you since the day he met you..." Kimberly said, grinning at me. I was shocked. Taylor liked me?
"You're joking? He likes me? How could someone as gorgeous as him like someone like me?" I blurted out. I then realised what I had said and I could feel my face turn red. Kimberly let out a little shriek.
"You like him to? This is great! Tay's gonna be so happy! You want me to set you two up?" She asked.
"NO!.. I uh, well, I barely know him... please don't tell him that I like him to... I would like to get to know him a little better..." I said. Kimberly pulled a face at me and I laughed.
"Well... I can tell you a little about him if you want"
"Ok.. shoot"
"Well, he's just broken up with his girlfriend... my best friend, Emily... but I don't blame him.. he dumped her. She's too bossy for him.. and she never listened to what he had to say... alway's her her her... finally he got sick of it and dumped her. He's also really into music. He sings... well, all three of them sing, Ike, Tay and Zac... they are in a band but they just play around town.. they are really good to! And-"
"KIM! WHAT YA DOIN UP THERE??" Isaac's voice rang out through the house.
"NOTHIN! BE RIGHT DOWN" Kimberly yelled back. She grinned at me. "Shall we continue this conversation at a later date?" She asked me. I laughed and nodded.
"Yes.. we shall" I replied. Kimberly and I made our way downstairs and back out to the pool.
