It was the Friday and my parents and I were in Kimberly's back yard. My parents were over talking to Mr. and Mrs. Cameron (Kimberly's parents) and Mr. and Mrs. Hanson (Taylors parents). Us kids were in the pool. Besides the Hanson boys and me and Kimberly, there were six other teenagers there. They were: Brad, Zane, Mel, Emily, Anita and Kathryn. I got along well with all of them, except Taylor's ex, Emily. She didn't seem to like me and I couldn't help but wonder if Kimberly had told her about Taylor liking me. Taylor was paying a lot of attention to me. Sitting or standing next to me when he could, talking and joking with me and staring at me. When I looked at him, I saw him look away and his cheeks would flush.
"Hey Kim" Taylor called out to Kimberly.
"What?" She asked.
"Come here!". Kimberly was sitting over with Isaac and was not pleased at being pulled away from him. She got up and walked over to Taylor. I was oblivious to all of this as I was engaged in a deep and meaningful conversation with Anita and Kathryn about Dawson's Creek.
"What?" Kimberly asked Taylor once she got closer to him.
"Has Jaida said anything to you about me?" Taylor came right out and asked. Kimberly smiled.
"She might have... and she might not have... why do you want to know?" She asked.
"Kim! Don't do this. I'm being serious... do you think I'd have a chance with her?"
"I'd say so.... she does seem pretty keen on you."
"She does?"
"Yup... you want to ask her out.. am I right?" Kim asked. Taylor nodded. His eyes looked over Kimberly's shoulder and over at where I was sitting. He then looked over at Emily, who was in the pool with the others.
"I want to, I just don't know about Emily... why did you invite her anyway?" Taylor asked.
"Taylor she's my best friend. I can't not invite her can I? Anyway, I thought I better let you know, she still likes you and she wants me to help her get you two back together... I think she's crazy."
"Oh great.. that's all I need.... you didnt say you'd help her did you?" Taylor asked. Kimberly shook her head.
"No way. I want to see you and Jaida together... oh, also, she told me that if you're gonna ask her out, then it has to be you who does the asking. Not me, or anyone else". Taylor's face went pale.
"What? I cant do that!"
"Why not?"
"Cause I've never asked out a girl to her face before. Emily was my first girlfriend and she asked me out remember?" Taylor said.
"Kimberly!! Honey, can you come here for a minute?" Mrs. Cameron called out. Kimberly sighed and walked over.
"Yeah?"
"Can you and your friends please get out of the pool for a while? Your sister and brother and Isaacs younger brother and sisters would like to go in without being splashed constantly by you and your friends"
"Mo-om... they can go in. We don't need to get out"
"I'm afraid you do sweetie. You and your friends are monopolising the pool and it's not fair to the rest of us"
"Kate? I couldn't help but over hear your conversation and I thought the older kids can use our pool. It's just next door and theres the gateway in the fence so we wouldn't need to worry and also, we can keep an eye on the younger children in this pool" My mom said to Mrs. Cameron. Kimberly's face lit up.
"That's a great idea. Mom, can we?"
"Oh I suppose so... but if there's any trouble you guy's will be right back in this yard.. ok?"
"Yep. ok.. Thanks Mom" Kimberly said. Before we knew it, we were all splashing around in my pool. I was standing near the edge, not noticing that Taylor was creeping slowly up behind me. Once he got close enough, he started to run.
"Jaida! watch out!" Anita called out but it was to late. Taylor got to me. He wrapped his arm around my waist and then flung both himself and me into the pool. I let out a scream as I hit the cold water. I came up and everyone was laughing, including Taylor.
"You jerk!" I cried playfully as I pushed Taylor's head back under the water after he came up beside me. Taylor came back up and laughed again and then pulled me back down as I tried to climb out of the pool. I wasn't expecting this and my hip bone hit against the edge of the concrete as I fell back into the water. I let out a gasp of pain and then quickly hoisted myself out of the water and sat by the pool. My hand gripped my hip and my head was down so no one could see my face. I was biting my lip to stop myself from crying but it wasn't working.
"Oh shit, Jaida, I'm sorry!" Taylor quickly apologised as he got out of the pool and sat beside me. I ignored him. I knew it was an accident but I was in to much pain to talk.
"Geez Tay why'd you do that?" Zane asked.
"It was an accident" Taylor snapped to defend himself.
"Ok, ok, I was just joking."
"Oh.."
"Is she alright?" Kimberly asked. "Jaida? hey, you ok?"
"Uh-huh" I said as I raised my head. I saw that everyone was crowding around me. Taylor was sitting on one side of me and Kimberly on the other. Everyone, even Emily, looked concerned. "I'm ok..."
"Jaida, I'm really sorry, it was an accident. I didn't know you were going to hit your hip" Taylor said. I turned my face to look at him. He looked miserable. I smiled at him.
"I know it was an accident. It's ok.. really. I know you didn't do it on purpose" I replied. Taylor instantly looked relieved.
"You sure you're ok?" He asked me. I nodded.
"Yeah... I just need to get some ice on it" I said. I could feel the bruise already. I stood up and then grabbed onto Taylor as support. He slipped his arm around my waist and lead me to the kitchen.
