Starshield Project Update! ! !
Recently the final nail was put in the coffin of Tracy Hickman's Dream, The Starshield Project, as the license for www.starshield.com expired and was not renewed. The website has been picked up by the Imeg Group as a memorial but the Project has now gone inactive. The status of the third book is in Limbo due to decisions made by Mr. Hickman's Publisher. Tracy hopes to complete the series someday perhaps as part of a web novel, but says this may be Four Years down the road. Tracy and his wife have the Bronze Canticles BBS Up and running. Check it out!
Starshield continues to live on via fan sites and the listserve. The Omnet Online Fansite and the IMEG Group Starshield Memorial website are two great links to more information about the history of the Project.
We all wish Tracy well and have hopes that someday he will return to this facinating universe he created. New to my site is the edition of the Starshield Galactapedia in .pdf format. Thanks to Frank Torkel for keeping it online!

CDW Overview
The CDW is a loosely knit Confederacy of 10 planets in 7 star systems and is currently involved in a rebellion from the larger: Federation of Democratic Worlds. The rebellion was sparked by debate over the rights of man-made-sentient or semi-sentient machines (TFPs, etc...).
These 10 planets: Dixie, Pixie, Nixie (commonly known as the 3 sisters), Argo, Rodel, Canann, Sumpter, Tyme, Helmuth, and Moor’s Planet; all seceded from the FDW when the Supreme Court, under pressure from the Planet Union, declared Robots, Automatons, and AI Computers to have the same rights as other sentient beings. This ploy was intended to get the 4 worlds known as the Robotics--home to an entirely mechanized race of androids--to join the Federation, thus adding their considerable wealth and industry to the organization.
The worlds of the Confederation are lightly populated with humans forming the majority of sentients on all the planets save Argo, the homeworld of the humanoid Argon Empire. Most agricultural and industrial work in the CDW is performed by sentient (or semi-sentient) robots and computers. For this reason, the Declaration of the Court was deemed a direct assault upon the private property rights and economic survival of these worlds.
