Surfside Motel has it's own beach, which is easily accessible from the motel. There are lots of adirondack chairs out back (waterside) for guests to relax in and take in the view. There are picnic tables and gas barbecues for gastronomic convenience.
We try to go "the extra distance", with fresh (free) coffee in the lobby each morning, fresh flowers, mints and all the ice you can ever use in your ice bucket. We also distribute maps of the island to each guest and a listing of the eating establishments with their hours of operation and telephone numbers and an indication whether reservations are necessary or not. Menus from
most of the island eating establishments are available as well as any information on special events taking place on the island. There is a fax machine in the lobby which guests can use - no charge of course! Complementary High Speed Wireless Internet Service is provided in all rooms.
In the summer on Saturday mornings, there is a Farmer's Market just across the street - from 10:00 until
12:30 which features local crafts, fresh produce, home baking, live music...etc. It's the place where EVERYONE meets on Saturday morning.

During our last nine years of ownership, Surfside Motel received guests from all across Canada and the U.S., Great Britain, Germany, France, Japan and Switzerland. When asked about how they found out about us, it was usually the Web, often Grand Manan Tourism, and mostly links to Whales or Puffins. One couple from England stayed for a week without the benefit of their luggage and clothing (which Air France lost and hadn't found by the time they left). They had only planned on staying 2 nights, but found the facilities so relaxing and friendly that they extended their stay by 5 more days.
Guests often return year after year following their initial visit with us. One octogenarian couple from Ottawa made Grand Manan and the Surfside Motel their summer home for 4 months for many years. In their own words "we counted the days til we got back to Grand Manan”.
Your Innkeeper hosts, Holly & Kirk Cheney live on the premises so there is that feeling of "being welcomed to their home" which they consider very important!
