On November 10th George Barris (photographer and friend to Marilyn Monroe) and Vicky Mirisch, in cordination with The Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum and the Marilyn Reporter Fan Club, helped to organize a wonderful event for the children of the Hollygrove Orphange.

Many Marilyn Monroe fans will recognize the name of this orphanage as it was Marilyn's home during her childhood. It is located in Hollywood just a few blocks south of Paramount Studios.

Ripley's invited the children of Hollygrove to come to the museum for an exclusive tour. First the kids were invited into the museum's theater for gifts, food and lots of fun! Then the children were shown around the museum, seeing all the many thrilling exhibits including the 2 Million Dollar display of Marilyn Monroe items! (When the museum tour guide told the children that Marilyn Monroe once lived at Hollygrove they were thrilled. It gave them a sense that no matter where you come from or who you are, you too can achieve greatness.) It was a wonderful day and the children really seemed to really enjoy the trip.

The People Who Made It Happen:

  • Mr. George Barris who was the angel who thought of and helped orchestrate this event.

  • Vicky Mirsch was the lady who set all the wheels rolling. Vicky has been a true champion of Hollygrove and she is inspiration to all Marilyn fans around the world.

  • Leslie Kasperowicz who generously helped out with every little detail to make this event run so smoothly.

  • Brandon Barone who organized getting Tee-shirts, Buckets, Cups, CDs, Pins, Rub-On Tattoos and Toys donated for the children from his work.

  • Cathy Doub, Shanika Jackson, Abe Baruck, Anterine Albright, Skipper Greer, Miguel Perez and Laura Herdon who all donated many of the above listed items and made this event even more wonderful!

  • McDonalds, The Roosevelt Hotel and Trader Joes for their generous donations of food for the children.

  • The Ripley's Museum and the wonderful staff, Dante, Victor, Keanna and Diane who really made us all feel so very welcome.
