Welcome to the Houston Young Musicians! We are a new community-based arts organization dedicated to bringing great music to the Houston area through the enthusiasm of our talented young members. Come see what all the excitement is about! Our MissionHYM is dedicated to providing performance opportunities to talented young musicians who wish to play chamber music; to foster greater understanding and appreciation of classical music in the community; and to promote new and unheard music by contemporary and American composers. HYM ProfileWe are a group of approximately 40 of Houston's most talented young musicians. We perform across the Houston area in a wide range of events, from educational presentations and children's concerts, to fundraising benefits for such organizations as Cancer Fighters of Houston, Inc., and American Festival for the Arts. Groups of HYM performers are also available for hire. Experience the excitement of having young musicians perform at your own special event! We have a partnership with American Festival for the Arts, one of Houston's most respected music programs. AFA and HYM have collaborated on new music performances, and share a common goal of educating the general public through the performance of great music, presented free to the community. HYM also enjoys a strong relationship with The Houston Young Artist's Concert, which has supported HYM performances in some of Houston's finest music venues. The Houston Young Musicians was founded in 2001 by then 16-year old Jordan Kuspa. Recognized as one of Houston's most promising young musicians, Jordan has performed widely across the city, as both a cellist and composer. Among the numerous competitions Jordan has won are the Clear Lake Symphony Concerto Competition (twice), the Houston Youth Symphony Scholarship Competition (twice), the Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, and the Houston Youth Symphony Concerto Competition. He is a three-time Houston Young Artist's gala concert performer, and premiered his work "Visions" in Stude Concert Hall at Rice University in an HYAC event. Jordan has written over 40 major works including three ballet scores, a filmscore, tone poems, concerti, suites, sonatas, and other chamber works. His teachers include Norman Fischer, professor of Cello at the Shepherd School of Music, Nathan Cook of the Shepherd School, and Todd Frazier, composer and founder of American Festival for the Arts. Jordan was the winner of an Evin Thayer Scholarship for artistic excellence in the Houston community. He is also a black belt and national champion in traditional karate, an AP Scholar with distinction, and a database designer in the Biochemistry department of Baylor College of Medicine.
