Welcome to The Memorial Concert Band of Colonie website.
The Band,
under the joint sponsorship of the Town of Colonie and the South Colonie School District,
was formed by musicians in the area dedicated to the promotion of the best in music for
the concert band.
The band plays four free concerts a year under the direction of
Douglas Dougherty, our new conductor
who follows Conductor Emeritus, Henry Carr.

In part, the band was formed as a living tribute to honor the memory of South Colonie
Music
Department Chairpersons Paul Aldi and Mark Cornell, and faculty members:
J. Edward Sewell,
Alex Mastren, Ruth Passenger, Bruce Belgiano, Warren Johnson,
Betty Schiff and Robert K. Oliver
and leaders of the Memorial Band, including Al Hallenbeck.
There has also been a feeling among area musicians
that a high-quality Community Concert Band,
similar to the outstanding Municipal
Bands, which now exist in Chicago, Atlanta and San Francisco
would help fill
the void many feel exists in the area by providing musicians a challenging and
fulfilling group to perform with, after graduating from high school and/or college.
Members of the
band include music teachers active and retired, professional musicians,
retirees from various
military bands, and outstanding area musicians.
A special thank-you goes to the South Colonie Friends of Music
for their generous
help and on-going support of our concerts.
