Alright, you know when highly anticipated albums make those huge splashes on the Billboard 200, SoundScanning some 600,000+ copies in their respective first weeks? Well, that’s pretty much the equivalent of Shelby Lynne’s Identity Crisis debut on my personal album chart three weeks ago. I’d say it was equal to, oh, some 815,000 copies. It’s a great CD, a nice return to form after Love, Shelby. It’s been Number One here for four weeks, the longest for any album since the chart’s inception this spring. As for Identity’s Billboard fate? Yeah, it didn’t even crack the top 100. Whatever. Moving on.

Why haven’t I updated for three weeks? Well, after much soul searching, I decided that it came down to the fundamental properties of…not feeling like it. Can I vague that up for you? Heh, I’m cool. Yeah. I said it.

Right, so…. Moving on…again.

On the singles list, OutKast’s Andre 3000 continues to dominate with “Hey Ya!,” which is spending the most time on top since Johnny Cash’s “Hurt” reigned for 4 weeks back in March-April. As for newbies, there are several by high profile artists, a sure sign that the fall music season is under way.

Let’s see, there’s Britney & Madonna, who debut at No. 6 with “Me Against The Music” (it couldn’t muster up enough hoo-ha to beat last week’s top debut, Missy Elliott’s “Pass That Dutch,” which entered at No. 5), Nelly Furtado’s “Powerless,” up 30-23, and Sheryl Crow’s “The First Cut Is The Deepest,” off of one of 1,967,345 “Greatest Hits” collections due in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Sigh.

On a more interesting note, a score cue from some 1970s Japanese film is booming up the chart thanks to Quentin Tarantino. At No. 25, the endlessly cool “Battle Without Honor Or Humanity,” by Tomoyasu Hotei, is quickly becoming an unexpected hit. The instrumental can be heard in those wicked Kill Bill: Vol. 1 trailers and also during the very cool movie, which I had the honor (or humanity) of seeing opening night. It’s awesome. You can read my review here.

That’s all for now.

The End.

On both charts, titles, such as "Number One," etc., are self-explanatory. However, the "Top Debut" honor only applies when there are two or more new entries.
