There are many conflicting accounts about the details of Elizabeth, first wife of William Bentley. One matter that appears to be cleared up is that Mary Eliot, wife of William Bentley, is someone else and not in this line. Some accounts list Elizabeth as the daughter of Samuel Gardiner and Elizabeth Carr, but one should also be careful not to confuse her with the wife of her first child, John Bentley who married Elizabeth Gardiner.
