Brice Hamilton Edwards was born on October 2, 1857 in Russell County, Virginia. He passed away on December 8, 1934. Brice Hamilton made Sarah "Sallie" Hay his bride on December 9, 1875 in Buchanan County, Virginia. "Sallie" was born on August 2, 1869, the daughter of Ambros Wilson and Phoebe Counts Hay. She passed away on January 11, 1945.

Brice and Sallie were both members of the Sandlick Primitive Baptist Church. Brice was a farmer and Sally was a midwife. She delivered many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At that time, there weren't many roads that wagons could travel on as the area is so mountainous. So, when Sally went to deliver babies, she had to ride a horse, which she chose to ride side-saddle. They lived near Birchleaf and are both buried on their property in the Edwards Family Cemetery.
