I love both long and short stories. But sometimes, I really want to read something lengthy and well-developed--really settle in with the characters. It's also a lot more risky, though, because I don't want to start some really long story and then halfway into it realize that I don't even like it that much. There's a lot of opportunity for one little thing to happen that will turn me away...and I'll have wasted all that time reading for nothing. My time is a precious commodity--which is why 30K is the threshold of what I consider to be a "long story." It is also why, in my opinion, recommendations for long stories are more important than any other kind of recs!
