Kansas Farm Scene

Dorothy lives with her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry on a dreary, gray Kansas farm. But things aren't going to well at homeDorothy wonders if there is a place where there isn't any trouble, singing Over the Rainbow. She runs away where she meets Professor Marvel who persuades her to go back home.
But it's too late. A twister swirls closer and closer to the farm as Dorothy nears home. She is not there in time to get in the storm cellar, and gets knocked unconscious by a window. She then imagens herself being transported to Oz.

Down the Yellowbrick Road

Dorothy walks out of her farmhouse into Munchkindland. The Munchkins are greatful because her house fell on the Wicked Witch of the East and killed her. They lead Dorothy in a musical celebration. Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, gives Dorothy magical ruby slippers. But Dorothy wants to go home! She is told to follow the yellowbrick road to the Emerald City to ask the Wizard of Oz to help.
Along her way, Dorothy meets:
A Scarecrow who wants a brain.
A Tin Man who wants a heart.
And a Lion who wants some courage.
They all come with Dorothy to ask the Wizard to grant their requests.
After the long walk down the yellowbrick road, they can finally see the magnificent Emerald City! But the wicked witch creates a deadly poppy field to put them to sleep, and Dorothy, Toto, and the Lion, being made of flesh, fall under its spell. Luckily, Glinda sends a magical snowstorm to free them!
They fianlly reach the Emerald City and are inside the Wizard's Palace. But the Wizard will not grant their requests unless they bring him the broomstick of the Witch of the West. So they set off for the Witch's Castle.

The Killing of the Witch and Dorothy's Journey Back Home

Dorothy and her companions head off to the west on their mission to kill the witch. They approach the Haunted Forest armed with weapons to fight the Jitterbug, which featured an elaborate musical number later cut from the film. They continue through the Haunted Forest to the Witch's Castle, but before they can get there...
The Flying Monkeys capture Dorothy and Toto and bring them to the Castle of the Wicked Witch. Luckily, Dorothy's 3 friends rescue her, but they are all trapped in the witch's castle, where the witch plans to destroy them.
When the witch sets the Scarecrow on fire, Dorothy grabs a bucket of water to get rid of the fire on her friend's arm. It hits the witch, and in an instant she melts away! Dorothy and her friends return to the Emerald City with the witch's broomstick.
But it turns out, the Great Oz is just a humbug from Omaha. But still ,he gives the Scarecrow his brain, the Tin Man his heart and the Lion his courage. He plans to take Dorothy home in his hot air balloon, but things don't work out. Dorothy is afraid she'll never get home.
Luckily, Glinda comes to the rescue. She tells Dorothy to close her eyes, tap the heels of her ruby slippers 3 times and think to herself, There's no place like home
Dorothy then wakes up and Aunt Em tries to make her realize it was just a dream. But she insists she really left them. Dorothy learned a very valuable lesson in that magical dream, as stated in her last line:
***Oh, Auntie Em, there's no place like home!***
