Scientific Name: Corallus caninus
Translation of Scientific Name:
"Corallus = shiny or pretty-colored, caninus = large front teeth"

This bright green snake lives in South Africa's Amazon rainforest spending most of its life up in the trees. The Emerald Tree Boa has a strong tail that can wrap around a branch and support its entire weight. This is called a "prehensile" tail. Some monkeys have the same type of tail to help them climb. It might be fun to have a prehensile tail to help us climb better.

For more on the Emerald Tree Boa, purchase "Reptiles Up Close" or check it out at your local library.
