Cook Ministry / Botswana

Through  perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures, we might have hope.  Romans 15: 4

In Botswana (a country the size of the state of Texas), there are 27 languages, but 12 of the languages don't have even one verse of the Bible printed. Individuals in twelve people groups must go to a second language to have access to God's Word. That would be like us, as English-speakers, being limited to going to German or Latin to read of God's love for us.

Richard's work is in language development. As an ordained minister in the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, he is seconded to Lutheran Bible Translators in Botswana. Richard's work is in reaching out to these people groups with unwritten languages and assisting them in the very beginning stages of getting their language into a structure to become written and to have scripture translated into it. He helps coordinate consultants on orthography (alphabet) development, grammar development and literature development while training mother-tongue speakers in the basic principles of translation.
