Subject: Punky, Lew & Achi 2 in Calafate, Argentina

Hi everyone: We are in Calafate, Argentina. We left Ushuaia last Sunday and rode through the mountains and down to the plain on paved and gravel roads in fair weather with some wind. Stayed the night in San Sebastian across the road from the Chilean border crossing. Next day rode the paved and gravel roads to The Straight of Magellan and crossed on a ferryboat. One of the friendly crew members has a KLR. Continued in fair weather with some wind on gravel road to Rio Gallegos and spent the night. Next day rode in heavier winds on paved road to Calafate. Today rode paved and dirt/gravel roads in clear weather to the Perito Moreno Glacier. The glacier is like a huge frozen river of ice, formed some 10,000 years ago, that moves at 3 1/2 meters/day downslope towards Lake Argentino. There we heard thunderous sounds of large chunks of ice (icebergs) breaking off and saw them fall into the lake with a BIG splash. Many tourists from all over the world in Ushuia and Calafate. The Peso devaluation makes Argentina a bargain for tourists. The rides on dirt/gravel are exhausting, but Critter, Senor Frog, Punky, Lew and Achi 2 are all fine. Tomorrow we ride back to Rio Gallegos and then northward on the Atlantic coast. Three more rolls of film will be sent soon to MotorMark for the website. Later, amigos & amigas.
