Songfic: I Would Die For You
Lyrics from Garbage's "I Would Die for You"

[Note: This is my first ever attempt at a songfic. Hopefully it isn't half bad.]

Another bloody loss . . . and again he had been so close. So close to victory and so close to having HER. With a growl of frustration the dark prince drove his fist into the wall. Next was to get drunk. What better to calm his nerves before going before the king for his normal lecture?

As the wine set in, Lotor’s thoughts strayed back to the glittering object of his desires – always it seemed she plagued his mind, and in this case the prince’s drunkenness did not quell his anger and despair but rather inflamed it. He shattered his remaining glass of red wine on the floor before his chair and stared into the slowly growing puddle of darkness. Even as he watched he could have sworn that her image swam to life and an exasperated snarl escaped his lips.

I would die for you . . .
His head thrown back, staring at the ceiling, a low bitter laugh began to well-up in the tortured prince. He lifted his head slightly only to let it return to the back of his chair, shaking his head slowly back and forth.

I would die for you . . .
Here I am, the Crown Prince of Doom and I’m besotted with a lowly wench – a beautiful and royal one, but a woman nonetheless. All I can think of is you, my dear. I can’t even allow myself to defeat that damnable Voltron if it means the possibility of putting your life in danger. And all I want . . . all that I want . . .

I've been dying just to feel you by my side . . . to know that you're mine.
Lotor sighed as he tried to articulate his pain and confusion.

I will cry for you . . .
“If only you knew, Allura. If only you knew,” Lotor whispered ever so softly. His laughter had stopped abruptly as he fought to bring his attention back to the blood red wine spilt upon the floor. He stared intently at the puddle, almost willing himself to see her visage once again.

I will cry for you . . .
Nothing appeared before him but he spoke as if there had. “I would do anything for you . . . anything. I could end this misery of yours with a sweep of my hand and a single decree. Why can’t you see that all I want is to have you by my side; I can make you happy, I know I can.”

I will wash away your pain with all my tears,
And drown your fear.
“Why, why can’t you see that I need you?”

I will pray for you . . . I will pray for you . . .
I will sell my soul for something pure and true . . .Someone like you.
“I live in nothing but solid darkness and perhaps that would have been fine and good had I never set eyes on you. Would that I hadn’t!” He motions empathically at thin air, and while he made sure to keep his voice barely above a whisper, the deep despair in it couldn’t be mistaken for anything else.

I will lie for you,
Beg and steal for you,
I will crawl on hands and knees until you see,
You're just like me.
“You will be the death of me, Princess. Of that much I’m sure.” As if in answer her face seemed to form in the dark liquid once again, evoking a choked laugh from Lotor as he placed his chin in his open palm. “How can I escape you?”

See your face every place that I'm walking . . .
“Is it even possible?”

Hear your voice everytime I’m talking . . .
“How can it be when I see you everywhere, smell you, and as you constantly fill my thoughts?”

You will believe in me . . .
And I will never be ignored.
His brows knitted together and his anger pulsed to the forefront once more. “No . . . you will be mine. There isn’t any other option.”

I will burn for you . . .
Feel pain for you . . .
“No matter what it takes.”

I will twist a knife and bleed my aching heart,
And tear it apart.
“I will have you, Allura, one way or another. You are my shining thing in the dark.” The prince’s voice trailed off softly before growing suddenly in intensity. “And I WILL have that! I won’t let you take that chance away from me. You WILL come to feel for me in exchange. You must!” Lotor beat his fist on the air of his chair in emphasis.

Violate all the love that I’m missing,
Throw away all the pain that I’m living.

You will believe in me,
And I can never be ignored.
He nodded to himself then. “Yes,” he nodded once more, staring intently at the smiling apparition of his princess. “You will come to care for me.” A wicked smile slowly began to spread across the drunken monarch’s lips. “And it doesn’t matter what it takes to win you; I will possess my shining thing.” His smile faded into a bitter shade of itself, “Even if you are the death of me.”

I would die for you,
I would kill for you,
I will steal for you,
I’d do time for you,
I will wait for you,
I’d make room for you,
I’d sail ships for you,
To be close to you,
To be part of you.
Cos’ I believe in you.
I believe in you . . .

I would die for you.
