Our Heritage

This is a family farm that has been in the Morkassel name for most of 100 years. Gullick and Gerta Morkassel bought the land near the turn of the 20th century. They raised 4 children here. Andy, Harry, Myrtle and Carolyn.

In 1922 Andy married Helen Mapps and they raised 6 children here. John, Jean, Paul, Mary, Ruth and Neil.

In 1964, Paul married Diana Northup, (that's us,) and began buying the farm. We raised 4 boys here. Alan, Vyron, Dean and Kevin (pictured above.)

In 1980 Paul retired from farming and in 1992 we began a small nursery business. it is a hobby and we love working with the plants in the greenhouse and growing them in numerous flower beds and vegetable garden.

Paul and I get our winter exercise walking around the aisles in the greenhouses when it is too cold or wet to go out.

In 1997 We built a new house in the windbreak to the South of the old house and Alan and his wife Kathy moved into the old house.

All of our sons are married and have children. We have 9 grandchildren. They love the home place and visit often.

Vyron is the only one who has built his own web pages. There is a link below. I will build a page for each of the other sons until they do their own. Also below are links to the Northup web pages which were built by Rick Northup, My brother.

We are a God loving family and believe in loving one another as he first loved us and as he commands us to do. It is the second greatest commandment, The first being to love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your mind and all your soul. We also are naturalists who love the simple life. Nature, flowers, animals. We love to travel and see more of God's creation.

Most of the photographs in these pages were shot with a Pentax K1000. Nothing fancy, but I do enjoy capturing nature on film. I hope you enjoy these pages.

I've now been using a digital Casio camera for a year and some months.  It is easier to get a high quality picture and I don't have to worry about wasting film or paying for developing.
