Welcome to Bob's place!

Hi, I'm Bob, and this is my place on the Web.

This site is devoted to sharing things related to Microsoft® Windows® programming, but I don't limit myself to that here. Most things have a Visual Basic® flavor, but you'll find exceptions to this as well.

Life is short, and as a result you will find that I am very casual here. I hope that doesn't put anyone off. Perhaps it's a sign that I am mellowing with age - or maybe just slowing down.

Site status

While I rework things here you may find the site a little slim on content. I hope to put more attention into this and get old items moved over from the old site as well as get a few newer ones posted.

Email contact information can be found at the bottom of my About page.

Site redesign

After a lengthy period of stagnation I've decided to update things here. Along with this comes a fairly radical change in the look of this site. The goal this time is a clean design reflecting tranquility. To achieve this I have regressed to what I think of as a common site design style belonging to a time before complex layout and spinning/flaming doodads colored our web-surfing lives.

All of this beige does make me think I ought to be driving a Volvo though. Perhaps I'm doing a public service by relieving insomnia.

Organization

News is pretty much whatever I feel like spouting about. This isn't meant as a substitute for a blog. It tends to be a catch-all place for my babbling, links to sites I find interesting, or what have you. Some of what you'll find here is site-related.

Visual Basic is fairly self-explanatory. From my VB page you should be able to find some of my own ideas about programming in VB (mostly VB6), the state of the VB universe, or some examples of things I have written in Visual Basic. At the present time you won't find anything here related to Visual Fred. Sorry.

VBScript is much the same thing, covering VBScript coding along with some discussion of HTAs. I particulary enjoy HTAs as a way of hosting VBScript for desktop use. The event model is very much like that used in Visual Basic form modules.  Unlike most sites you may find that I concentrate more on non-administration uses for VBScript.  I tend to use it as more of a general application and tool/applet development language.

Other is a pretty open-ended category. While I tend to stick close to the theme of Windows programming, you might find almost anything there.

Downloads provides an index of downloadable items, mostly small programs, components, or other things referenced elsewhere here. This is just a convenient place to find them all grouped together.
