[FA1] DRUST MAC ERP Picts, 424-53.
Drust is the name of at least 10 kings of the Picts. It is sometimes rendered as Drustan, or more popularly TRISTAN or Tristram in the Arthurian legends. Its meaning is uncertain but probably derives from the Celtic word "drude" for druid and suggests that the name may originally have been reserved for pre-historic priestly rulers of the Celts.
The earliest Pictish king for which we can establish some historical basis bore this name. The death is recorded in the "Annals" of Clonmacnoise in the year 449, though the accuracy of this source is uncertain. If Drust did rule at this time, then he may well have been the Pictish king with whom CERETIC of Alclud entered into an arrangement for capturing youths from Ireland to sell into slavery in Pictland. One of the king-lists refers to Patrick's ministry to Ireland beginning in the tenth year of Drust's reign -  the actual year was 435. Drust was well known in Irish legend as the hero of a hundred battles. It is difficult to know over how much of Pictland Drust had authority (there were almost certainly several Pictish kings ruling at any one time), but it is probable that Drust is remembered for being one of the Pictish kings who harried the British across Hadrian's Wall in the years after the withdrawal of Roman support. We can imagine that at some stage Drust and COEL "HEN" ("Old King Cole") came to blows.

Reign: Bet. 424 - 453, Ruler of the Picts2

[Mike Ashley, The Mammoth Book of British Kings & Queens,  (Carroll and Graf Publishers, New York, 1998), pg. 170.]

[FA2] TALORC MAC ANIEL who died in 457, probably ruled for four years, sandwiched between two gianst of the early Pict world, DRUST MAC ERP and NECHTAN "MORBET".

Reign: Bet. 453 - 457, Ruler of the Picts4

Generation No. 3

3.  VERCH ANIEL3 (VERCH ERP2, ERP1)5 died Unknown.  She married ERP AP CERETIC5, son of CERETIC AP CYNLOYP.  He died Unknown.

Notes for ERP AP CERETIC:

[Mike Ashley, The Mammoth Book of British Kings & Queens,  (Carroll and Graf Publishers, New York, 1998), pg. 186.]

[FB2a] ERBIN Strathclyde, fl 470s-80s.
Erb or Erbin is alluded to as one of the sons of CERETIC. He almost certainly shared the kingdom with his brother CINUIT, but nothing is recorded of his reign. He may be the same as Erp who was the father of the Pictich king NECHTAN MAC ERP. Since he is also recorded as the father of GERAINT it is possible that there has been some confusion between these rulers and those of Dumnonia.

Reign: Bet. 470 - 480, Ruler of Strathclyde, and probably inherited Alclud and Galloway6

Children of VERCH ANIEL and ERP AP CERETIC are:

                   i.    VERCH ERP4, d. Unknown.

ii.    NECHTAN MAC ERP, d. Unknown.
