LaVerna Meets Her Man

My father, Elmer H. Ferguson, worked as a store clerk and made deliveries to the house where my mother worked. That is how they met. (Who says Prince Charming doesn't come knocking on your door?!) He had to ask her out a couple of times before she accepted. She was two years older than Elmer and thought she was too old for him.

Elmer's High School Photo

Elmer was graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1935. The caption in his yearbook reads, "Strange to the world, he wore a bashful look".

Silver and Rex

Elmer owned two horses and boarded them at a nearby farm. Silver was the mare and Rex was her colt. Silver was purchased from a stock farm in Mexico, Missouri, and shipped by train to Michigan.

Mom and Silver

Sometimes LaVerna got to ride Silver.
