Family LifeElmer and LaVerna were finally able to have the family they always wanted. Jack Douglas was born 24 September 1945, Janet Elaine came two years later on 28 July 1947, and Eileen Ann was born 30 July 1953. Elmer and LaVerna instilled in their children the importance of God, church and family. They were active members of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

This was LaVerna's favorite house and neighborhood. Elmer and LaVerna moved there from 317 Ann Street in 1950 with Jack and Janet. Eileen moved in three years later!

1956 Family Photo
Growing up, there were always family picnics, vacations, and the Robins Family Reunion. Elmer's grandmother was Evaleen (nee Robins) Ferguson. LaVerna's parents, Grandma and Grandpa Schultz, lived only two blocks away, often babysitting for us. It was wonderful to have our grandparents be such an ever-present part of the family.

Family Vacation
This photo was taken on a family vacation in 1956. We camped on the way from Ann Arbor to San Rafael, California, where Elmer's sister Catherine and her family lived. We made stops in the Black Hills, Yellowstone National Park, and Glacier National Park. Photographer: Janet, with her Brownie camera. LaVerna went to work part time in 1962 for the University of Michigan Dental School. She began working full time around 1966, retiring in 1980.
