Flat Heads

The Flat Heads were very friendly.  When the corps came to them, the Flat Heads put white robes on the shoulders of the explorers and shared their peace pipe with them.  The Lewis and Clark expedition camped near them for several days.  These Native Americans were light skinned.  They were amazed by York.  They thought that he was a white man painted black, but found that he was naturally black.  The Flat Heads also thought that York was the bravest of them.
