Keeping the legacy of First Nations hockey alive in the Tournament Capital has been a struggle. But it's one worth continuing, said Native Hockey Tournament co-ordinator Jim Grant.
"The tournament was successful in the past, and we're hoping to build it up into one of the bigger events in B.C.," he added during the weekend's final games at the Valleyview Arena on Sunday.
Four teams participated in Saturday's round-robin action - the Kamloops Falcons, Kainai Braves, Interior Selects and Canim Lake Chiefs. The Falcons went 1-1-1 Saturday. In Sunday's single elimination round, they lost the semi-final game 9-7 to the Canim Lake Chiefs.
In the final, the Kanai Braves came out victorious, ousting the Chiefs 7-1. The Braves won $1,000 plus invitation to next year's tourney, with entry fee and rooms paid for to defend the Falcons Cup in 2007.
