While some people complain that H&R/NEF single shot shotguns kick too hard, I believe their minimal weight is also what makes them a joy to carry out into the fields and woods for casual hunting with low-volume shooting. I decided to make my 12-gauge Topper as light a burden as I could for those lazy walks outdoors. That included ordering this stock and Choate's conventional forend. Those two changes reduced the gun's weight by almost a pound (compared to the the original wood furniture). It now weighs right around 5.5 pounds. The change in stock weight has shifted the guns balance from the butt-end more toward the front, which I prefer.

Aside from the change in weight, this stock is a bit longer (about 1/2" maybe) than the original stock and seems to have a little more drop at the heel, both of which were positives for me and seem to make the gun fit better. Also the grip feels slimmer and doesn't have the squared off edges like the original wood stock (the Choate conventional forend is also slimmer). Even though I have long fingers, the narrower grip feels much better to me.

As one might expect, the light weight means increased recoil, but the recoil pad seems pretty decent (I've used Limbsaver pads, and the pad on this gun seems about that good).
