The awesome laser weapon!
Abstract: the US military has said that it will be available to use the laser weapon destroy the UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) at 2023. In order to make this come true, this agency have already tested the vehicle equipped with a high power Red Laser at Oklahoma State. In the experiment, the American soldiers used a laser system named "HELMTT" (high energy laser mobile test vehicle) to destroy a unmanned aerial vehicle with a result of melting its outer shell and inner circuit completely.
Adam Albert , Master of HELMTT project said, "we have done a lot of preparation to track this UAV,and we totally destroyed a lot of things".Besides, the U.S. military also destroyed a laptop computer, in order to demonstrate how to destroy the enemy's command and control system.The HELMTT system contains a 10 kW laser device, which is equivalent to 10 million Laser Pointer .
This system also includes a beam control system, acquisition and tracking sensors, as well as other support equipment.It is possible to track all of the totalitarian threat, such as rockets, artillery ,cruise missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, and even threats from ground.Power is the only need of it , and the HELMTT system comes with a diesel generator.
The only challenge of it is the weather, it needs to reduce the impact of different atmospheric conditions.Therefore, Albert does not think that the system can replace the power system.His team is now planning to assemble more high powered laser for the system to make it more efficient and the HELMTT system will be upgraded to 60 kilowatts laser at the next year.
