I always had a deep interest in photography. My love for taking pictures often prompted me to visit new places. But due to the stressful nature of my profession, I hardly get the time to travel. Recently I got the opportunity to visit Khawr Fakkan, UAE for a client meeting. This was my first trip to the Middle East. I boarded Gulf Air from Lucknow with my associates. We reached Khawr Fakkan during the evening.

A 4-star hotel was already booked for our stay here. Located close to Al Badia Mosque, it had well furnished, air conditioned rooms equipped with minibars and TVs. A massage at the spa helped to get over the stress caused by the journey. I spent the evening watching television. The relaxed ambiance and the timely room service enabled me to spend some time alone and prepare for the client meeting for the next day.

Visiting Khawr Fakkan's tourist attractions

The client meeting ended during the evening the next day. My first destination was Jabal Jabi, a mountain located close to the city. Named after the Spanish adventurer Javier Guillén who climbed the mountain during his visit to the region, the mountain top offered a spectacular view of the landscape below. I took a few pictures of the area to add them to my personal album.

I then headed to the Al Bidyah Mosque, UAE's oldest mosque. Built from stone, mud, and gypsum, it was built between the 15th and 17th centuries. The mosque is built in the same pattern of the ones that exist in Qatar, Oman, and Yemen.

  • Our First Experience of Authentic Arabian Cuisine

None of us had a good knowledge of Arab cuisine. But all of us had an avid interest in food. So, the next day we went out for lunch at an Arab restaurant. The Shawarma was delicious! Made from chicken with a combination of tomatoes, fries, garlic sauce and pickles wrapped in Arabic flatbread, it was similar to kebab in taste. Served with fruit cocktail made from strawberry and banana, it was a perfect starter for our lunch.

The Matchbous was another Arab delicacy, which we relished.  This lamb based preparation was similar to biryani in taste. Prepared from spiced lamb, stew, tomato, and spice, it was, even more, mouthwatering than Lucknow's biryani! All of us were deeply impressed by the culinary skills of the Arabs. We hadn't tasted such unique meat preparations before! We finished our lunch with Mehalabiya, a delicious pudding served with a sprinkling of pistachios and rosewater.

  • Return trip to Lucknow

I stayed in Khawr Fakkan for three days during which I spent my free time taking pictures of the city's major attractions. But the cuisine was the highpoint of my Lucknow to Khawr Fakkan trip. Since my return from the trip, I have started taking interest in cooking. I spend my free time preparing different types of delicacies. This brief sojourn on Gulf Air to Khawr Fakkan will always be a memorable one for me!
