The theme of my paper is that of Diamond's third point in his five-point

framework: hostile neighbors. I have taken many art history classes that center around the conflicts that the country faces with it’s neighboring countries. Works of art an architecture center around the mood and the lives of the people at the time. Works of art that depict corrupt governments and epic battles and architecture that was constructed to keep enemies out were some of the things I learned about that relate to the evolution of a country gaining independence and the events they most go through to gain it.

Another one of my classes that centered on the conflicts a country goes through in its evolution to being independent are my psychology classes. The central theme I have learned in psychology is the goal of being a healthy, independent, and fully functioning individual while studying what could be wrong when people are unable to reach that goal. The same thing happened with Bangladesh. They had to and still have to face conflicts with the outside world- their neighboring countries- as well as internal conflicts-splitting from Pakistan- in order to become a functioning and independent country.

I think the information in my paper is helpful in a future career to know that I may have to work with someone who’s views are opposed to mine and that we can still work together toward a similar goal. With life in general I believe that learning about all of the little things that led up to a turning event could help me to look at the big picture with anything in life.
