Where Do You Stand In the Mac OS v Windows Fight?

It's true that there are plenty of different computer manufacturing brands, but for the average user, there are only two choices for operating systems: Mac OS vs. Windows. Linux is also out there, but that is usually only chosen by people with advanced computer skills or businesses. The next time you have to buy a personal computer, you are going to need to take a close look at what both Mac and Windows can offer you and we are going to explore some of those respective advantages in the paragraphs you are about to read.

If you like to use your computer with lots of external devices, you'll often have more options with a Windows computer. As an example, if you buy a new computer with Windows 7, it will probably have a Blu-ray player built into it alongside a memory stick reader, multi-format card readers, etc. A lot of people want to be able to connect their computers to their television sets and when you own a Mac, this requires a special converter tool. If you have Windows 7 installed on your PC, however, you shouldn't have any trouble making a direct connection to your television set. This allows you to watch any videos that are available online on your television. Typically, Windows based computers are more highly compatible with external devices than Mac based computers with the obvious exception being external devices made by Apple.

If you are a follower of tech news, you've undoubtedly heard quite a bit about Windows 8, the next important update being offered by the Windows operating system. For some, this might make a difference in the whole Windows vs Mac debate, as with this new release, Windows is going to be introducing some radical new features. The biggest advantage that Windows 8 is going to offer is the option of turning your computer into a tablet thanks to a highly operational touchscreen. There are also going to be options for using keyboards and mouses the traditional way. Of course, as of the writing of this article, Windows 8 is still a future release that we can only look forward to. 2012 is the earliest that this OS will be released. And by then, it's likely that Mac will come up with something to rival it.

The newest Mac release, Lion, has built in security to help keep you protected if you lose or if someone steals your laptop or your notebook. This feature, Remote Wipe, has been available on iPhones for quite a long time, but only recently has it been introduced to notebooks and laptops. With this feature you are able to remotely wipe out your whole hard drive if you lose your notebook or laptop or if it gets stolen by someone. If you keep any sensitive or personal information on that computer, it will offer you some real peace of mind. This is a feature that works with iCloud, and is only available on the Lion OS. So far, there's nothing comparable to this on Windows based computers. Obviously you still need to run backups of your important data so that, in the event that you do have to wipe your hard drive, you won't lose the data that is most important to you.

There will never be a final answer to the question of whether Windows or Mac OS is better. There are diehard fans for both OSes, but there are major advantages to each choice. You are going to need to carefully consider the needs you have, your budget, etc and then figure out which OS is best for all of those. pc viruses have taken my laptop
