1.      UCLA: The first institution to create a computer network system. UCLA established the first network connection which is known today as the internet. On October 29, 1969 was able to communicate with Stanford Research Institute.

2.      Al Gore:  Supported some legislation that gave federal aided to several technical institutions so they could continue their research and development the internet. The funding allowed the four national supercomputing centers to develop advance technology to develop a better working internet system.

3.      Rand Corporation: During the 1960s a team headed by Paul Baran discovered the technique of packet switching. They discovered a way to transfer data over the internet by breaking the data into chunks so the information can be transported through the internet.

4.      Vint Cerf: Bob Kahn and Vint Cerf established a set of protocols when dealing with the transfer of data over the internet. The protocols are TCP and IP. TCP/IP connects the different packet-switches so the network is one giant system.

5.      Leonard Kleinrock: During the 1960s, at UCLA he was able to create one of the earliest known computer network systems. He is known as one of the fathers of computer science and information technology.  Under Kleinrock’s guidance, in September 2, 1969, UCLA was connected to the first host and the internet was born.

6.      Jeff Bezos: In 1995, Bezos created one of the first online book stores. Amazon.com. is currently the world’s largest online retailer because the site reaches countless number of people through the internet.

7.      Marc Andreeseen: Created the first GUI web browser. Mosaic was a side project while he was working at the National Center for Supercomputering Applications. Mosaic made accessing the internet and their services easier for all people and brought the internet to mainstream exposure.

8.      Jonathan Abrams: In 2002, Abrams started a new internet movement, social networking. He started Friendster. Friendster allowed people to socialize over the internet. Friendster led the way for other social networking sites such as MySpace, Face book, and others.

9.      Jerry Yang: In 1994, Jerry Yang and David Filo launched Yahoo to the world. This is one of the first search engines that allowed people to search for sites by entering certain keywords. They were able to get rich from the many companies advertising their products on Yahoo.

10.  Sergey Brin: In 1998, Sergey Brin and Larry Page launched a search engine that can outperform others. They called it Google. Google can place the results of a search in a certain order so; people can find the site or services they are looking for more quickly.
