Indian Railway Never Lets You Down

In India, each state has its own customs and traditions, language and food habits. Yet there is one thing that is common to all these states, and that is Indian Railway. It has helped in binding all these states into one nation. It connects different states and people, and has a great role in the economic, cultural and political growth of the country.

Indian Railways employs about 1.4 million people and is the fourth largest employer in the world. The staff members are gazetted or non-gazetted employees. The gazetted employees are recruited by conducting Union Public Service Commission Examination and the recruitment of non-gazetted staff is carried out through 20 recruitment boards of the railways.

The introduction of new technology has highly improved the services of the railways. The launching of IRCTC website not only allows online booking, but also facilitates other enquiries like train availability, train schedules, seat availability, prices of tickets and time table.

Another interesting feature of Indian Railway is the Real Time Train Information System, which gives real time information on the trains like the train location, train running position i.e. if the train is on time or if it is running late, and the location of the train at the time of enquiry i.e. how far the train is from the next stopping station. This information is available on the website of SIMRAN and is provided only for six pairs of trains for the time being. Soon it is expected to cover the entire network of trains.
