On January 4th 2008 we woke up to a slight snow shower. As the morning progressed so did the beautiful snowy scenery around us. These are just few photos taken around our cottage, fieldfs and of course the lough. Unfortunately the snow did not continue. A little more than an hour or so later the thaw had crept over the majority of the fields leaving just a memory of our first Fernlea snow covering.
Top photograph, Fernlea's drive way leading to the cottage with Lough Gill and the Slieve Deane mountains in the background. Note the sky's colour. There is more snow in those clouds sadly not much of them spilled over us at Fernlea. Above left, our lane outside our field, looking up Butler's Lane. Fernlea Cottage would be on the right. Right above, looking down Butler'sLane and

across our central field towards the cottgaqge. The rear of 'thevoid' can just be seen on the right hand side of the cottage. Left, at the the top of our right hand side looking down the field to the lough with Castle Point and its bare wintery trees junting out to what must the cold and bitter waters of Lough Gill. Below left Fernlea Cottage and 'thevoid'. from Butler's Lane again but at the top of the

left hand side field looking towards the lough and 'Half Moon Bay'. Beyond the peninsula is the entrance to the River Garravogue that runs through the centre of Sligo town. As you can bare witness to, this part of Sligo County come rain and or shine, snow or sleet, it is a beautiful area.
