We're Just Getting Started

Right now Mr. Kile, our founder, is getting certified as a Department of Corrections Volunteer in the state of Oregon, working with Open Hearts, Open Minds, joining in discussion groups at a men's prison.  He's getting to know the rules of engagement for those giving of their efforts in correctional facilities, how to correctly work with the teams of volunteers and, and what kind of educational opportunities are available to the men while in prison.

Mr. Kile is also hoping to meet with a few of the administrators of the Oregon Department of Corrections in Salem before 2013 to propose a plan to teach sign to hearing prisoners and guards in a few of the state facilities.  He will be addressing this desire after realizing that there is a demand for signing classes inside the prison walls, not only for the Deaf men who find themselves incarcerated, but for the hearing men who would like to learn about other cultures and take on new languages, making the most of the time they are spending within the detention center.

At present, the biggest issue is the paperwork associated with the formation of the nonprofit and the filing of the 501(c)3 papers with the IRS.  This process will take a few months, but when complete, will allow you to make tax-deductible donations to help fund the transportation and basic running costs of this operation.  Until then though, donations to fund the legal set-up would be greatly appreciated, although not tax-deductible yet.
