Introduction

Perhaps one of the most iconic symbols of a chemistry classroom is the Periodic Table of Elements.  The periodic table of elements serves a larger purpose than just a fashionable wall decoration. In fact, it has gone through many different versions up until the one we know today and displays the accumulation of numerous scientific discoveries.

The first periodic table was introduced by Dmitirii Mendeleev in 1869. But even before his organization scheme was introduced several other scientists contributed with countless discoveries about various elements to make the famous table possible.

In this WebQuest you will explore just how intricate the periodic table of elements is and what hidden "secrets" it holds about the characterization of the chemical elements. By unlocking the means of understanding the table you will be able to properly decipher its information to both solve problems and predict results! The WebQuest will require your skills as a researcher to search the internet for helpful information, to organize the data you collect and finally to present your results to the class.
