AMSTERDAM - Ötzi was probably not fertile. That is the amazing result of a
new research after the secrets about the 5000 years old glacier body. This also
acknowledges that Ötzi probably belonged to a lower social class.
The genetic research, published in the American Journal of Physical
Anthropology, also states that his roots were probably from Central Europe.
The research was focussed on the mitochondrial DNA, which is inherited exclusively
via the mother. But one of the researchers is not completly convinced about his
infertility.
This research contradicts the theory that Ötzi was the ancestor of all Tirolans.
But it supports the theory of Konrad Spindler (deceased), who stated in the nineties that Ötzi was a loner who died
in the mountains.
The 5,300 years old remains of Ötzi are kept in an archaeological museum in Italy.
It is, however, very strange that 9 of the researchers and finders have
deceased under strange circumstances within the 14 years after the excavation of Ötzi (in 1991)...
