Mid-Atlantic Regionals (May 11, 2002)

Trey Morita ran and judged the Mid-Atlantic US Championship tournament on May 11, 2002, in Chantilly, Virginia at the Game Parlor (near Dulles International Airport).

There were 32 players in attendance, the highest turnout yet recorded at a DC-area event. People came from as far away as North Carolina, Massachusetts, New York, and the wilds of Pennsylvania to play. (And in one case, from Michigan to visit but not play.)

The tournament was won by Joshua Duffin playing a Followers of Set deck with Dominate, based mainly on stealth-bleed, Temptation, Form of Corruption, and defense (Deflections, Delaying Tactics, and Majesty with Swallowed by the Night).

Here's the full list of players and results; the top ten are now qualified to play in the North American Championships at GenCon US this summer, as well as the European Championships. (None of the previously qualified players made the top 10, so the new qualifiers are the same as the top 10.)
