Twenty-one players woke up in time to show for The Anarchs
Baltimore Pre-Release held at Games and Comics...and Stuff
in Beautiful Downtown Glen Burnie, Maryland May 17, 2003.
The event drew from Northern Virginia, DC, Maryland, and
Central and Eastern Pennsylvania. Originally a larger
turnout was expected due to the absence of the Prince of DC
(spending the weekend with the Big Boys in Atlanta), but a
brave Anarch volunteered to coordinate a DC area event in
Woodbridge, VA for May 18th. I hope that worked out too.
Baltimoreans had a good time. The format (four boosters and
a starter deck from which to construct a game deck in
30-minutes) worked to perfection with minimal contesting
and with 21 players, it worked out nicely with seven of
each starter deck.
Seating was arranged "by hand," as the Archon initially
wanted to sit four Barons at one table. The tables were
kept at no-more-than-two of any one starter deck.
After two rounds, the Baron decks held the top three spots.
The final was conducted with the top three different decks
and the next two different decks going for the finals win.
Eric Hoffman, the number three, overall, Baron deck player
sat at a second table with the next four top players. A
third table played a pick-up constructed deck game.
It was good to see so many stay for a third game, rather
than running off and taking care of life priorities. All
participants at tables one and two received boosters as
prizes.
The boosters were more than adequate prize support;
however, it would have been nice to get promotion cards of
any variety to "spice" things up. A few players were
looking for Wind Dances or Eyes, but since we didn't
receive any, it was a non-issue.
The final table looked like this: Tom Black(6), bleeding
John Oyerbides (4), bleeding Pat Lusk (2), bleeding Greg
Williams (1), bleeding Colin Riggs (5). The final order
was Greg, John, Colin, Pat and Tom. Greg had two VPs in
the Final as did Pat. Tom had a VP.
At the second table everyone received a half VP as the
table went to time, with Dan Coleman hanging in there by
the skin of his teeth. That table saw Kevin (9) bleeding
Matt (10), bleeding Christian (7), bleeding Dan (8),
bleeding Eric (3).
