Julio Breaks Major League Record

212... that's fast!!

On a warm night in July, Jorge Julio firmly entrenched himself into Major League Baseball history by shattering the record for the fastest recorded pitch of all time.

Until now, the greatest reliably recorded speed at which a baseball had been pitched was 100.9 mph by Lynn Nolan Ryan(California Angels) at Anaheim Stadium in California on August 20, 1974.

As my friend (Prince) Jason Von Der Van Vermillion and I were in attendance at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, we cheered on Julio as he came in to close out the game.

“Julio was in RARE form that night, even for Julio!” said Jason.

And then it happened… A pitch so fast that we jumped out of our seats! I remember I turned to Jason and asked him how fast he thought the pitch was. Before he could say anything, the board gave us our answer. There it was, clear as day… 212 MPH.

After the initial excitement died down, the nay-sayers stepped in to try to ruin the celebration. The fat, balding man in front of us bellowed back something about it being an error on the board. We never bought this ridiculous story about a “scoreboard error.” We clubbed him to death with an oar, and he was never seen again. “Scoreboard error? That’s kinda farfetched, don’t you think?” said Jason.

Not letting this murder ruin our evening, we heartily congratulated Julio after the game. That is the point at which we learned that Julio was working with O’s minor league pitcher John Stephens in order to capture Stephens knack for throwing at 50 MPH.

“If I can get a 150+ MPH range, I’ll end the season with several hundred strikeouts easy!” said Julio excitedly.

This certainly helps our campaign to get Major League Baseball to suspend their silly rule about not allowing active players into the hall of fame. So far Major League baseball bigwigs are split on the issue.

“Yeah, it’s a tie… So I figure we’ll just end it without ever resolving it,” says MLB commissioner Bud Selig.

One way or another, this is another mighty big notch on the belt of the man known as Jorge “God” Julio.
