Swallow Falls and Herrington Manor are probably our favorite Maryland parks.
We like to rent a log cabin at Herrington Manor. We then hike at Swallow Falls.
It is also only about and hours drive from there to Blackwater Falls, Canaan
Valley and Catherdral State Parks in
West Virginia, our favorite places. There is a
nice campground at Swallow Falls but no RV hookups.

Swallow Falls on the Youghiogheny River. Nice snow storm in Jan. 2002.
The Nat. Weather Service was calling for this storm so we rented a cabin and
off we went.

Falls after the storm. In the Summer the place will be over run with
folks swimming and having a great time. But not today. Very few visitors today.
|
Down stream view. To the left is the trail along the river. It is a loop
from and to the parking lot.
|
Muddy Creek Falls all frozen up and quite pretty.
|
Cabin in the woods. This is one of the cabins that can be rented at
Herrington Manor. This park is very near to Swallow Falls.
Deep Creek Lake, Oakland and Whisp Ski Area
aren't too far away. So...a cabin in Herrington can be home base for many
activities. Herrington is popular with cross country skiers.

Muddy Creek Falls has quite a crowd on this June day. Boy Scouts enjoying
a cold dip and a natural shower. Quite a change from the falls above.
