The spirit of rock and roll

At least thatīs what they were singing about on the brilliant single "Steamroller". And they really had it in them. The Family Cat were one of the rockier Shoegazing outfits. Donīt really know much of what they did before first album "Furthest From The Sun", but Iīve got a single from a few years earlier (canīt remember the bloody title now) and it sounds just as good as the stuff they did on the album. "Steamroller" still stands up as a Shoegazing classic to this day ... errrmmmm....

The funny thing about them was that even the press liked their music, but always critizised them for something they could do absolutely nothing about: their looks. The singer had a mouth bigger than those of Mick Jagger and Steven Tyler put together, they had a fat, bald guitarist and the rest of the band werenīt much prettier either.

The second album (canīt remember the title either, Jesus Christ) was very good as well, featuring "Airoplane Gardens", a true classic and "Wonderful Excuse". Shame they never had a chance, the poor buggers..... ;-)

What the press said:

about Furthest From The Sun, Select July 1992: "Exhilarating, exhausting, the Cats are kittens no longer." 4 out of 5

What they said themselves:

Tim, MM August 1992: "We were going to call our newest song "Nowhere to go but down". But I think weīd better change it to "Lads on the piss""
