Lyrics to DUETS

Welcome to my page of lyrics from the DUETS CD. Let me give you a little tutorial on how I color coded this page. All the lyrics that Alice Ripley sang are in the color "Rosy Brown.' All the lyrics that Emily Skinner sang are in Sea Green. When both Emily and Alice sang together, these lyrics appear in Blue. Hopefully this should make it easier to read and understand (this took a long time to do, so I hope it is worth it!). These are not all the songs, right now they are only some of my favorites. Enjoy!

Remember:

NEW!! Certain songs have lyrics courtesy of CDNow. These songs are noted with 2 stars (**). You must have Real Player to hear anything. The parts of the songs that are song are in bold.

LITTLE ME**
From Little Me
By Coleman/Leigh

There was I
Almost dead and gone.
All alone and friendless.
What was I to do?

What to do, what to do?
Here am I.
How can I go on?
Chasing down these endless
Cul de sacs and hallways.
Who will see me through?

Will I ask of you?
Who will see me through... as always.

Who to tell my troubles to?
Lend a sympathetic ear.
Who to cheer me when I’m blue?
Wipe away each little tear.
When there’s no one left,
I am not bereft.
There is always little me.
Old reliable.

When the year goes down the drain.
And I haven’t made a cent.
When I fall in love in vain.
Or I give it up for lent.
Friends can fly the coup.
Leave me in the soup
Who’ll come through with lentils
And to get to fundamentals
When the chips are really down.
Who would not be out of town?
Or a blabber mouth.

Who do I esteem most?
Who do I adore most?
Who deserves the cream most?
Who built up the candy store most?
Who comes first and foremost?
Obviously, when you add it all up.
Ever lovin’ little me.
Rise and fall.
Royal friends.
Through it all.
To the end.

When it comes to parlez-vous,
Who could parlez-vous a few?
With the best of ‘em.
Who will earn that bounty?
Who’ll pursue that quarry?
Like a northwest mounty.
Only built like Mada Harri.
Who’ll get locked in for me.
With a little black sheer.
With a little bit here.
And a little much here.
And a little bit there.
Just a little bit.

Who will make you sorry?
Wait and see.
Who’s it gonna be?
Your sincerely little
I mean merry little.
Your sincerely little me!

STUCK WITH YOU / READY TO PLAY**
Cut from Side Show
By Henry Krieger and Bill Russell

I warned you about my circumstances,
How old romances fell through.

Dad’s business caused my love life to be fractured
He manufactured strong glue.

But you persisted anyway,
Now I can’t make you go away.

Dad’s product has made one,
Where there were two.

And now I’m
Stuck with you.
Oh yes I’m
Stuck with you.
Yes there are worse things to be.
Cause even though we can’t be separated
Dissociated or isolated
At least you’re also stuck with me.
With me! With me!

Aren’t you glad you’re stuck with me?

I’m so tired of being wealthy.
Why can’t I be poor but healthy?
Bored and rich is so passé.
And now I’m ready to play.
Daddy’s down at the casino.
Mommy’s out with Valentino.
Gave the staff a holiday.
And now I’m ready to play.

I practiced on my tennis game.
Backhand.
Loving.
Where to aim.
Love’s a score that doesn’t pay.
So now I’m ready to play.

Got the urge to mix and mingle.
I’m so tired of playing single.
All alone since noon today,
And now I’m ready to play.

Called all the handsome guys I know.
Invited them out to my chateau.
No other girls at my soirée
And now I’m ready to play.
Hey! Hey!

Worked all day, at getting pretty.
Got down to the nitty-gritty.
Tossed out the boys with no cashé
And now I’m ready to play.

Got chic gowns.
I'm sable stol'd
Emeralds.
Diamonds.
Lots of gold.
All that flash gets in my way,
When I am ready to play.

I would like a simple romance.
Share a soda, uh, share slow dance.

Long as he’s cute
I’ll let him pay.
‘Cause now I’m ready.
Oh so ready.
Now I’m ready to play.

ONE BOY / WHAT DID I EVER SEE IN HIM?**
From Bye, Bye Birdie
By Strouse and Adams

One boy.
One special boy.
One boy to go with
To talk with and walk with.
One boy, that’s the way it should be.
That’s the way it should be.

One boy.
One certain boy.
One boy to laugh with
To joke with have coke with
One boy, not two or three.

One day you’ll find out.
This is what life is all about.
You need someone who is living just for you.

One boy.
One steady boy.
One boy to be with forever,

and ever and ever and
One boy.
That’s way it should be.
That’s way it should be.
That’s way it should...

Eight years!
Eight years!
That’s how long I wasted on him!

That’s all, I’m through!
Darling dear to put it sweetly...
To hell with you!

What did I ever see in him?
How did I ever get involved that way?
Now that it’s over I can smile and say,
What did I ever see in him?

Boy I was way out on a limb.
Now that I’m safely on the ground again,
Now that my senses have been found again,
What did I ever see in him?

Is he tender?
No, he’s not.
Is he thoughtful?
No, he’s not.
Am I crazy?
What’s he got that I found so damn appealing?

What did he ever do for me?
Well to be honest he was sometimes nice.
But still it wasn’t worth the awful price.

It was rough, from the start.
Broken dates, broken nails, broken hearts.
How did I ever?
Why did I ever?
What did I ever see in him?

Do we need them?
No we don’t.
Do we want them?
No we don’t.
Will we leave them?
No we won’t. Tell me what did I say that for?

What did we ever see in them?
How could we ever think that they were nice?
Take it from us we’ve paid an awful price.
It was rough, from the start.
Broken dates, broken nails, broken hearts.
One boy!
One boy!
What did I ever see in him?

IN HIS EYES**
From Jekyll and Hyde
By Wildhorn and Bricusse

I sit and watch the rain,
And see my tears run down the windowpane.

I sit and watch the sky,
And I can hear it breathe a sigh.

I think of him.
How we were.
And when I think of him,
Then I remember.
Remember.

In his eyes,
I can see,
Where my heart longs to be.

In his eyes,
I see a gentle glow,
And that’s where I’ll be safe I know.

Safe in his arms,
Close to his heart.

But I don’t know quite where to start.

By looking in his eyes, will I see beyond tomorrow?
By looking in his eyes, will I see beyond the sorrow
that I feel?

Will his eyes reveal to me
Promises or lies?

But he can’t conceal from me
The love, in his eyes.

I know their every look.
His eyes.
They’re like an open book.
His eyes.
But most of all the look that hypnotized me.

If I’m wise,
I will walk away,
And gladly.

But sadly
I’m not wise.
It’s hard to tuck away the memories
That you prize.

Love is worth forgiving for,
Now I realize.

Everything worth living for is there,
In his eyes.

Love is worth forgiving for,
Now I realize.

Now I realize.

Everything worth living for is there...
In his eyes.

IF MOMMA WAS MARRIED
From Gypsy
By Styne and Sondheim

If momma was married.
We’d live in a house as private as private can be.
Just momma, three ducks, five canaries,
A mouse, two monkeys, one father,
Six turtles, and me.
If momma was married.

If momma was married.
I’d jump in the air
And give all my toe shoes to you.
I’d get all the hair ribbons out of my hair,
And once and for all I’d get momma out too.
If momma was married.

Momma get out your white dress,
You’ve done it before.

Without much success!
Momma,
God speed and God bless.
We’re not keeping score
What’s one more or less?

Oh momma say yes,
And walk down the aisle while you may.

I’ll gladly support you,
I’ll even escort you.

And I’ll gladly give you away.

Oh momma,
Get married today.

If momma was married
There wouldn’t be anymore,
“Let me entertain you.”
“Let me make you smile.”
“I will do some kicks.”
“Woo!”

“I will do some tricks.”
“Sing out Louise!”
“Smile Baby.”

Momma,
Please take our advice.
We aren’t the Lunts.
I’m not Fannie Brice.
Momma,
We’ll but you the rice.
If only this once,
You wouldn’t think twice.

It could be so nice.
If momma got married to stay.
But momma gets married
And married,
And married!
And never gets carried away.

Oh Momma,
Oh Momma,
Oh Momma,
Get married today!
