Retirement of Postage and Mailing Centers

The Postage and Mailing Center(PMC) has enjoyed a long life, but, on 28 May 2004
the last two machines, which were in Reston VA and Sterling VA, were retired from service.

The first picture shows the Reston Machine out of service. A separate sign introduces the Automated Postal
Center(APC ) as the PMC replacement. The sign lists the retirement dates for the last nine working PMC sites.
These sites are Eads, Herndon, Manassas, McLean Main, Preston King, Prince William, Reston, Sterling, and
West McLean

Reston PMC was to be retired on 27 May but was given one addtional day of service while the APC was
being made operational.
