YWIRLS is an umbrella of after-school programming for young women between the ages of 9 & 17
at the Dorchester Family Branch of the YMCA.
Such branches of programming include STEP, Double Dutch, Self Defense and
Cheerleading, along with First Friday workshops geared toward enhancing the daily
life experiences of these young ladies. Both STEP and First Fridays are facilitated by
the women of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
who volunteer their time.
Aside from the regular schedule of weekly activities, the young women are provided a myriad
of opportunities to become involved in and with the community. YWIRLS participants do a
number of fundraisers such as bake sales, car washes, yard sales, etc.. These fundraisers are
done in order to raise monies for an annual field trip (to places like Hershey, PA; Virginia, etc.). Our largest fundraiser of the year is our Annual YWIRLS Fashion Show. This event, sponsored by many vendors, both locally and nationally, helps diffray the costs to parents and volunteers for programming and enrichment trips / activities.
At present, we have been able to keep the cost to $25 per year, per child. This includes access to all of the after school programs outlined below. Click on a link below to find out more about a specific program.
