This page is about Glenn Danzig, his bands past and present and related bands. I have been told that his real name might be Dwayne Anzolone, which is scary, but Eerie told me that this not true it may be Glenn Aaron Danzig, born 23/6/55 in Lodi, NJ.

He first gained a great underground following with his punk band The Misfits, with Jerry Only (real name Caiafa), and Manny. They formed in 1977, and their first record was Cough/Cool. It's a bit strange but listen to this followed by Blackacidevil and you might realize that this album may not be so unexpected!. All of their songs were about 2 minutes long, but they were a bloody good 2 minutes, rarely more than 3 or 4 chords, but unbelievably catchy choruses. They summed up everything that was cool about early horror films. They had, according to Glenn about 7 different drummers, and even he did some of the drums on some songs, this would not be the first time he would do more than just sing on an album. It's hard to say how many albums they released because lots of songs appear on other albums, but I think to get virtually all The Misfits original songs you just need:- The Misfits Collection I & II,and Legacy Of Brutality There are loads of other albums to choose from but they only seem to have about 3 or 4 other songs. Glenn left in '83 but after a while trying t get rights to the name the Misfits returned with a new singer, Michael Graves, and a new album 'American Psycho', the full line-up now is Jerry Only, Doyle, Dr. Chud, and even newer singer Myke Hideous.

They influenced everyone from METALLICA & THERAPY? to PRONG as was shown by Metallica's covers of Green Hell, Last Caress, and London Dungeon (the latter I've only heard cut short at their break from the studio show at donnington a few years ago). There was also VIOLENT WORLD-A TRIBUTE TO THE MISFITS which featured loads of punk bands including THERAPY? & PRONG.

After this came SAMHAIN which was still in the punk vain even covering old Misfits songs!, but they added a more eerie sublime element possibly due to the bass player, Eerie Von, who was actually the photographer for the Misfits. Glenn played guitar and there was also Steve Zing and Damian. They recorded 4 albums:-

INITIUM,

UNHOLY PASSION,

NOVEMBER-COMING-FIRE, and

FINAL DESCENT (this was recorded in 1987, the same year Danzig was formed, and actually included John Christ on tracks 2 to 5 )

Glenn and Eerie joined forces with guitarist John Christ and (ex Black Flag) drummer Chuck Biscuits to form Glenn's self titled band DANZIG. This outfit was a more bluesy kind of metal, still retaining Glenn's punk roots but adding a crisper edge, not to mention some kick ass guitar solos. They went on to do 4 albums together but around the eventual UK release date of their last album together there were tensions regarding Chuck which resulted in Joey Castillo taking over the sticks. They toured for a bit and then John and Eerie also left. Part of the reason in Glenn calling this band DANZIG was so that people could "come and go". He continued with Joey and made Danzig 5 with a little help from some keyboards and a programmer. Up to this date there have been 5 Danzig albums and an EP :-

DANZIG,

DANZIG II- Lucifuge,

danzig III- how the gods kill,

Thrall/Demonsweatlive,

DANZIG 4p,

DANZIG 5- blackacidevil,

Danzig

Eerie Von has done " Eerie Von's Uneasy Listening " (w/ Mike Morance), and is releasing a new album next month; "The blood and the body". John Christ is in " Juice 13 ". Chuck Biscuits is with " Social Distortion ", CHUCK IS ALIVE & WELL, he's been 'talking' on Devilman's message board, so go there.. Glenn also released a solo album BLACK ARIA (a while ago), Glenn is apparently working on Danzig 6 , It is supposed to be out in March '99. Danzig might get the role of Wolverine in the new X-men film, unless Jean Claude Van Damme gets it. I've heard a rumour that he may also be planning to go on tour again with SAMHAIN, without Eerie, but with Damian, Steve Zing and London May (played on 'November...') time will tell..........

Thanks to Eerie for helping me out with some of the info for this page!
