Chapter 18
Matt was standing in the hallway when Jeff returned from the bathroom; he wasn't moving he was staring at the open door.
“Hey Matt?” Jeff asked walking to his side. He looked upset. “Dude what’s wrong? Who was at the door, I heard it ring?” Jeff asked watching Matt’s head bow to the floor, Jeff saw that his eyes were closed and he looked like he wanted to cry.
Jeff pulled Matt over to the couch, and waited for him to calm down. “What’s wrong?” Jeff asked finally when Matt didn’t respond or answer his question.
Matt turned and looked at Jeff. He shook his head and began slowly to tell Jeff what Angela had said. Jeff sat in silence, when Matt was finished he himself didn’t know what to say.
They were sitting there for a very long time.
Meanwhile.... Back in the girls room.
Angela had been crying when Lita returned from the bathroom, Lita asked her what was the matter, and after insisting Lita made Angela tell her what happened. Angela debated whether to tell Lita and decided she would like to confide in someone, so she told her.
Angela cried more as she spoke and when she was finished with her story Lita was crying too. She reached over and hugged her new friend and felt so bad for her.
Then it occurred to Lita that Matt was gonna be so hurt and confused, she didn’t want that either. She told Angela that she thought that Matt really liked her. Angela looked even more upset, Lita knew she really liked him too, she was just afraid- she didn’t want to possibly risk being hurt again, and that was understandable. Lita understood how both Angela and Matt had to be feeling. She felt bad.
“Lita I don’t know what to do, I left him without giving an explanation, and the truth is all I wanted was to stay.... I like him so much, he’s great, and he’s so sweet, and he’s incredibly sexy, and really good looking, and so far he’s been really nice to me, I wanna be close to him in every sense of the word, and in every way, I just want him to hold me.... but I’m just so scared to get close to anyone. I can’t risk being hurt again. It’s just not fair.” Angela said as she went and stared out the window. Fresh tears came again now.
Lita sighed as she fell onto the edge of her bed. “Nothings fair hun, but that's how it is. Life's not fair and as you’ll learn wrestling not fair either. You know that I’m sure.... But worst of all, loves not fair and that's the most depressing.” Lita said running both of her hands through her damp hair.
Angela frowned as she stared out of the window into the night. “Why did Ray have to do this to me? Now I want Matt to want me, to need me, and I don’t trust myself to let him...Damnit, I know that Matt is nothing like Ray, but something in me just doesn't feel right about trusting someone again, friends yes, but love.... I’m just
not sure yet, but every time I see Matt’s gorgeous face all I wanna do is kiss his sweet smile and have him hold me in his strong arms and I don’t dare let myself not only because it’s to soon, but because I don’t feel trust in anyone...and dammit it makes me so crazy!” Angela cried wiping tears from her face and hugging her arms across her chest.
Lita shook her head as she stood and came to hug Angela. Angela cried softly for a while and Lita spoke softly to her trying to comfort her new friend, “Angela, Matt is a great guy, I should know!” Lita said giggling quickly at herself. “Anyways you need to start trusting people sooner or later, why not start now, even though life, love, and wrestling aren’t always fair, you can not let what Ray did to you make you miss out on some great friends or great guys, and Angela Matt is one of those few great guys! Don’t lose him before you even give him a chance, I give you my word, Matt would never hurt you! Just tell him the truth, tell him about Ray, tell him what he did to you, and see what happens, but for God’s sake don’t not trust him or any of the love he could give you... please just talk to him!” Lita said as Angela picked up her wet tear soaked face and met Lita’s still concerned eyes.
Angela stared at Lita for a few moments and then let her eyes turn down to the floor. She sighed “Lita you know you’re right, I should give Matt a fair chance and stop thinking that every guy is gonna hurt me like Ray did. Matt is really wonderful, and your right he deserves a chance, and hopefully maybe one day I’ll tell him about Ray, but until I do, swear you won’t tell a soul!” Angela said staring at Lita.
“I swear, I won’t tell anyone..... not until you tell me to!” Lita said grinning at her.
Angela smiled and then frowned, “My only problem now is…” Angela said turning her eyes back down to the floor.
“Is what?” Lita asked quickly as she smoothed Angela’s brown hair and smiled at her.
Angela sighed, “Well after what happened with Matt and the way I left, I don’t know what to say to him, I don’t wanna lie to him, but I’d just feel kinda funny telling him about Ray....I don’t know how to tell him yet. I’m just not sure what to say to him, I acted kinda badly, just leaving the way I did. What do I say to him? How do I act? I dunno how to face him...” Angela said looking back up to Lita. Lita stretched as she turned away from Angela and went to her suitcase and began brushing her hair. Angela followed her slowly and sat on the edge of Lita’s bed watching her. Lita sighed as she brushed her hair trying to think about what advice she could give Angela.
After a few minutes Lita set her brush down and turned to look at Angela who was lying across Lita’s bed. “Angela just be normal around Matt, apologize about earlier....I dunno tell him you had a lot on your mind or something, but seriously if you want him go for
him, leave Ray in the past! He can’t hurt you now, and Matt would never hurt you! Then leave the rest to me and Jeff, but I’m telling you Matt deserves to know the truth and I hope you tell him someday and soon.” Lita said touching her hand. Angela stared up at her knowing she was right.
Lita smiled, “I’m gonna get changed and then we can call Matt and Jeff and they can meet us, and your gonna talk to Matt,” Lita giggled as she turned for her closet.
Angela sighed. “Okay.” She said softly.
