Ten Principles

Do involve children in things that concern them.
Don’t work around them or distract them to get the job done faster.

Do invest in quality time, when you are totally available to the child.
Don’t settle for being always together but only "half there."

Do let children learn to solve their own problems.
Don’t take away valuable learning opportunities.

Do model the behavior you want to teach.
Don’t preach.

Do respect children as individuals.
Don’t treat them as cute,empty-headed dolls or objects to be manipulated.

Do build security by teaching trust.
Don’t teach distrust by being undependable.

Do learn children’s unique ways of communicating and teach them yours.
Don’t under estimate their ability to communicate.

Do be honest about your feelings.
Don't pretend to feel something that you don't.

Do be concerned about the quality of development in each stage.
Don’t rush children to reach development milestones.

Do invest in time and energy to build a total person.
Don’t just strive to "make a baby smart."
