Just Rocks

I had always heard the desert scenery was hot, dry, lots of cactus, flat, and a few rocks.
The mountain view with an abundance of pine trees and a trickling stream was my preference.
Was it possible to see beauty and majesty in just rocks?
How could I possibly comtemplate the past and meditate on the future sitting on a rock with sweat flowing from every pore?
However, I was bound and determined to make an honest effort to diverify my appreciation of nature.
So off I journeyed to the land of the unknown and....rocks.
My first glimpse of this country was hot, dry, lots of cactus, and flat except for a few rocks.
I think that this must be the land that God created last and obviously had run out of ideas.
I walked off the trail and up a small incline; another then another.
These weren't just rocks, these were big, red, alive rocks.
I began to see figures and familiar shapes formed by the red masses.
I knew they had a story to tell and I was ready to listen.
I inspected these forms and wondered how long this one little rock had teetered on the larger one.
Had someone placed it there?
The water lines became more and more apparent; could it be that this vast, barren valley was submerced in water at one time?
As I wandered further and further, past life here became evident.
The small lizard's ancestors knew who painted and carved these images representing an unpretentious and modest life.
I pictured people and wildlife.
Night came quickly; I heard nothing, yet the silence was full of sound.
Several days past as I investigated and explored this new Kingdom.
The earth had exhibited and revealed it's contrasting splendor to this skeptic.
Surely God had started here.
As friends inquired as to the sights my excursion had presented.
I smiled to myself and replied, "Just a few rocks."
