The Big Adventure --
Kathmandu & You
Sights from My Fifth
Day
I snuck off near the end
of work today to go be a real tourist. I made my way through
Pashupati again taking more pictures, some of which you just saw, and
then I took an overpriced cab ride out to the Bouddha Stuppa. This is
an area of Buddhist temples and an extremely large (one of the
tallest structures in Kathmandu) Buddhist shrine or stuppa. A Buddha
is burried beneath the dome.
You walk around all the
temples and shrines clockwise, keeping your clean right side toward
the temple. You use your left for toiletries and there's no toilet
paper used in Nepal. Yep, I survived two weeks without toilet paper.
I also became a vegatarian for most of the two weeks as Nepalis do
not traditionally eat meat. Traditionally they eat dal-bhat and
tur-curry (lentil soup with rice and vegetables flavored with
curry).
