Scene 4- Change Of Events

(This scene focuses on Jessica, sitting on a bus with AJ, Howie and Kevin on either side of her. AJ is behind her, Kevin is beside her and Howie is in front of her)

Jess: (worried) They have to make it back here. Edward couldn’t have… (avoids the interested and curious glances) I mean… I hope they’re okay.

AJ: Everything will be fine, Jessica. You’ll see.

Jessica: I just… feel so helpless right now.

Kevin: (shuffles closer to Jessica) Take it easy, Jessica. Your sister is with Nick… he’ll keep her safe.

(Right than a bright blue flash of light consumes the bus, shocking the group. In seconds all our arrivals appear. Chase, Nick, Dallas, Tamera, Ash (his pokemon), and Misty with her pokemon)

AJ: Whoa… that’s a trip. (squints) Nick?

(Blue light vanishes)

Jessica: (bolts up to grab all her friends in a BIG hug) OH my god… you’re all… (she pulls back to stare wide eyed at Dallas and Tamera) How did you two get here, you were supposed to stay away from the bathroom?

Dallas: We couldn’t just leave you here, not after reading that letter.

AJ: (in utter confusion) Bathroom?

Tamera: We just came back from Veridian City and the ride was awesome!

Kevin: (glances to AJ) Veridian… what?

Tamera: (laughs) A pokemon city.

Kevin/Howie/AJ: Pokemon?

Nick: (interrupts) Yeah… (pulls Ash and Misty forward) Guys, meet Ash and Misty.

Jessica: (stares at the new visitors)

Ash: We’re Pokemon trainers, but I’m better than Misty.

Misty: (turns to stick out her tongue at Ash) You wish.

AJ: (sighs) Uh… huh.

Ash: (offers in a more courageous tone) We’re here to help.

Jessica: Oh… oh no, I don’t think…

Chase: (looks to Jessica) We’re gonna need all the help we can get, to get out of here. Plus, who knows what will happen to them if they don’t stay with us. (Jessica sighs defeated)

Tamera: (excitedly, turns to Ash) Can I be a Pokemon trainer like you guys?

Ash: Sure, I could teach you.

Tamera: Really? (blushes) COOL!

(Jess grins to the new couple and cooes softly)

Jessica: Now that is really cute.

Chase: (sits slowly) Yeah, well now we have to think about our way out. I refuse to live the past over again. I just want to go home and live a normal life without… (looks up to Nick, than returns her gaze to Jessica) all of this.

Jessica: Chase…

Chase: He’s doing it, I can feel it… he wants me to… (stares at Nick again with frustration) NO! (she stands up) I don’t want to do this again! It’s not right!

Nick: (kneels down to Chase’s side) What’s not right?

Chase: (turns her head) No… I can’t do this again… (pushes past Nick to storm off the bus now) I REFUSE to do this again!

Nick: What? (runs after Chase and catches up to her just as a cruel wind blows) Chase?

Chase: You’re not…

(The wind blows more fierce and both Nick and Chase are forced to each other to hold on, both squinting their eyes. We hear a tinkle of the bell around them and there is a blast of white light… next we see the wind has stopped and our couple open their eyes to find themselves lying on a small cot. We have entered the “Flowers in the Attic” set up. Chase bolts up)

Chase: (shakes her head) No… no, this can’t be right. (leaps off the cot to race to the window, there are bars on it) I don’t obsess over this! HEY! (she glances up) You screwed up, here! (Nick rests a hand on her shoulder that causes her to jolt back into him in shock)

Nick: Chase?

Chase: I knew he’d screw up one of these times. (turns to Nick) We have to get out of here.

Nick: Wait…

Chase: No… no waiting! We can’t wait… well I can’t wait. (Frantically, she races from him to the stairs of attic that she quickly climbs. Almost immediately, she is finding herself some rope to tie to one of the rafters) It’d be best Nick doesn’t come.

Nick’s Voice: CHASE!

Chase: GO AWAY!

Nick’s Voice: I don’t know what’s going on!

Chase: Good, than we’ll keep it that way… it won’t matter as soon as I get out of here. (she pulls on the rope to make sure it’s tight enough, before thrusting a kick into the glass of the window)

(Nick arrives in the doorway and ducks to avoid the low doorframe above him)

Nick: Chase, what are you doing?

Chase: Getting out of here. (tosses the rope out the window) And you’re staying here, you understand? This is what he wants and I won’t let him have what he wants…

Nick: (rushes at Chase before she can start climbing out and he throws them both down onto a mattress on the floor) Chase…

Chase: Let me go! (tries to fight Nick) I said let me go!

Nick: Why? What’s going on? Chase, you’re not going out that window without me, and whether you like it or not you’re going to tell me everything!

Chase: (defeated, she drops her head on the mattress) You shouldn’t be here. Edward is just using you to get to me.

Nick: (roughly) Whose Edward?

Chase: Edward rules this world and everyone in it.

Nick: He doesn’t rule me.

Chase: Everyone, Nick. I never wanted any of this to happen again, that’s why I wear this bell. (picks up the bell) I wrote a book…

Nick: A book?

Chase: My very first script about all the things I obsessed over, five years ago. Somehow, I allowed this world to open and Edward has been able to control it. We made it home once, but I forgot everything for an entire year afterward. I even forgot about someone very special to me… he forgot too… I’m sure. (gazes up at Nick) I can feel it again… those feelings, I wished would never return in this world.

Nick: What do you mean?

Chase: I’m scared of the pain it’s gonna cause me this time.

Nick: You don’t have to be scared, Chase, of Edward or anything else here.

Chase: (teary eyed now, she brings a hand to his face) Nick… don’t do this, I know what happens to…

Nick: (cuts her off) I won’t let anything happen to you.

(There is a silence before Nick leans down to mold his lips into Chase’s, bringing his hand up to carress her face romanctically. Her hand comes up to land down on his back and she gasps from the intensity- the scene goes dark on them)
