2002 Completed Knitting Projects

Presented here are photos of some of the items I made in 2002. I hope to be more diligent about it next year.

Charlie's Seaman's Scarf

Completed January 19, 2002. I made this for my husband, Charlie. Unlike the typical Seaman's scarf, he wanted it to wrap around his neck, hence the very long middle section. Made from 100% virgin wool purchased years ago at a garage sale for next to nothing. The picture on the right shows the stitch detail.

Mohair Lace Stole

Completed in October 2002. K1C2 Doicer et Soie Mohair and Silk. From a pattern by K1C2.

I fell in love with this "scarf" when I attended TKGA in Branson, Mo in March, 2001. That was my first knitting convention and this beautiful garment was hanging in a booth in the very back. It actually called my name. With my loose knitting, it became a stole and I have received many compliments and even some requests to make some for my friends.

Diamond Patch Sweater

Completed in April 2002. Berrocco Cotton Twist Colors. From a pattern by "Just One More Row!"

I really enjoyed knitting this pattern. It is knit in diagonal mitered squares and contains all kinds of information on proper fitting, etc. I, of course, did not make enough adjustments, just blindly following the pattern. Thus, it is too wide at the shoulders/deep at the neck and too short. I loved the yarn colors and shine, but the rayon ply of the yarn snagged.

Lace Mohair Scarves for Christmas

Completed November 22, 2002. Not telling yet who these are for, but if you like what you see, drop a hint. These are quick to knit, soft, and warm. The pattern is printed on the ball band from Artful Yarns. The purple is Artful Yarns, the Green is Berrocco, and the tan varegated is from King Cole. All yarns are a combination of mohair, wool, and nylon.

Drop Stitch Accent Tote Bag

Completed November 23, 2002. I actually knit 99% of this during summer vacation, all but the last of the strap. Don't know why I left it undone, but I finished it up in just a few minutes on a Saturday night. Made from Sugar and Cream worsted weight cotton with Berrocco cotton twist colors (from my diamond patch sweater) as the accent. The picture doesn't show the lovely color.

The Fizz Boa

Completed November 28, 2003. These scarves are really popular right now and fun to knit. Kind of "kitchy" but this one has a bit of dazzle. Made from Great Adirondak Yarn Co.'s Evening Fizz. Still don't know who to give it to for Christmas. Anybody interested??

Double Diamond Dish Cloth

Completed December 2, 2002. This is my favorite Dishcloth pattern. I have made it 3 times so far, and all have been for gifts. Don't tell Mom, but this one is for her. She had a handmade dishcloth at her house when I was visiting last month and it was knitted too loosely and was so plain. This one has a bit more pizzaz. It is made from Sugar and Cream 100% cotton yarn in an eggshell color.

Charlie's Watch Cap

Completed December 6, 2002. Charlie asked me for a light weight hat to match his scarf. Fortunately, I had some of the navy blue wool yarn left over so I made him this hat. It is a simple watch cap pattern with 2 x 2 rib on the band. Isn't he cute?!

Nylon Scrubbies

Completed December 12, 2002. Our outgoing (in more ways than one) guild president, Brenda, gave everyone 2 balls of 3" wide, 16 ft long nylon netting to make garter stitch scrubbies. This stuff was awful to knit with. But thanks Brenda! One is going to my Mom.

Double Knit Christmas Hot Pad

Completed December 14, 2002. This pattern was a "gift" on Marcia Liby's blog page. It was my first try at double knitting. I don't know if I would want to do a whole garment this way, but it was a fun thing to learn and will make a nice throw-in to Mom's Christmas package.

Stocking Cap for Nick

Completed December 23, 2002. Made from Plymouth Encore (acrylic/wool). I actually knit this twice - the first time I made it normal size. Nick wanted a hat that fit "tight" so I ripped it out and redid it very small. He was aghast that I would tear apart my knitting, and humbled that I wanted to do it to make him happy. He seems to like it just fine now.

Fortissima Socks for Stacey

Completed December 31, 2002. This sock yarn was a blast! Fortissima jaquard works up fast because you can't wait to see what pattern shows up next. I had some trouble, as I wanted the socks to match so I pulled and pulled on the second ball and thought the color repeat pattern was backwards so made the second sock from the outside of the ball. Well, as you can see, the tops match pattern wise, but differ as soon as you get to the heel. It was still fun and I gave them to Stacey as a surprize on New Year's Eve. I don't like how the toes turned out, though. One an up note, I DID follow Norma's suggestion and made them at the same time on separate needle sets so they came out shaped exactly the same and were both done at the same time.

Mini Sock Pin

Completed December 31, 2002. I made this from a little pattern I found on the internet out of the leftover Fortissima yarn It only took a few yards of scrap. I have seen other people do this, but I think mine is the smallest I have seen. I made it to wear to guild meetings. It took no time at all! And, no worry about having to make a second one!
